REDLINED COLLECTION
Redlining didn’t just redraw maps.
It redefined neighborhoods, rerouted futures, and restricted generations.
- In 1915, Black landowners in the South held less than one-tenth the wealth of their White counterparts.
- A century later — in 2013 — the story hadn't changed much.
- The median Black net worth was just $17,000.
- For White families, it was $170,000.
That’s 10 cents to every White dollar.
My paintings, Tithe and Dime froze that truth in time —
- The latest 2022 data shows the numbers have shifted,
but the imbalance persists. - The median Black family now holds $44,900.
- White families: $285,000.
About 15 cents to the dollar.
If the last hundred years brought 10 to 15 cents...What will the next hundred bring?
